Liberal Party to bury 2025 election loss review after months of work

The Liberal Party will bury its review into the devastating 2025 election loss less than a month after electing its new leader, Angus Taylor.

Party elders Pru Goward AP and Mick Minchin spent months working on the contentious review, which is understood to have been completed last year.

However, in a statement, the Liberal Party on Friday afternoon said the Federal Executive “has decided not to publish the review”.

“What’s important now is that we strengthen our Party for the future,” the statement read.

“To do so, the Federal Executive will move quickly to drive implementation.

“Our objective is simple: Rebuild the Party. Restore trust with voters. Win again.”

The review recognised the Liberal Party’s “enduring strengths”, while establishing “where processes failed, where connection with voters was lost, and where we must do better”, the statement read.

“The May 2025 election result was a decisive defeat. We accept that verdict. We also accept the responsibility to change.”

The months-long review was reportedly marred by controversy after Peter Dutton raised concerns about its contents in December.

The review also reportedly fingered Donald Trump as being a critical factor in the loss.

The Liberal Party thanked Mr Goward and Mr Minchin for their “tireless work”.
