Tim Walz has fired back at Donald Trump after the US President hurled a derogatory slur at the Minnesota Governor, calling him “seriously retarded”, in a Thanksgiving Day rant on social media.
Mr Trump lashed out at Mr Walz in a post on X on Thursday (US time), accusing Kamala Harris’ former running mate of failing to stop the “hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia” from taking over the “once great” state of Minnesota.
“Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for ‘prey’ as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses hoping against hope that they will be left alone,” Mr Trump wrote in the lengthy post, before using a term to demean those with intellectual disabilities to describe Mr Walz, and launching a racist attack against Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar.

“The seriously retarded Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, does nothing, either through fear, incompetence, or both, while the worst “Congressman/woman” in our Country, Ilhan Omar, always wrapped in her swaddling hijab, and who probably came into the U.S.A. illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother, does nothing but hatefully complain about our Country, its Constitution, and how ‘badly’ she is treated, when her place of origin is a decadent, backward, and crime ridden nation, which is essentially not even a country for lack of Government, Military, Police, schools, etc …”
Minnesota has the largest Somali population in the US, with 107,000 people calling the state home in 2024, according to the US Census Bureau.
Hitting back, Mr Walz responded to the slur with a four-word response on X, bringing attention to the President’s health.
“Release the MRI results,” he wrote alongside a screenshot of Mr Trump’s post.

It comes after Mr Trump announced last month he had undergone an MRI during his visit to
Walter Reed National Military Medical Center but has been light on the details.
“I got an MRI,” he told reporters on Air Force One at the time. “It was perfect.”
The White House has declined to provide specific details about the scan or which part of the president’s body was examined.
“President Trump remains in exceptional physical health,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters earlier this month.
Trump says South Africa won’t be invited to attend G20 summit
In a separate post on social media on Friday US time, Mr Trump has announced officials from South Africa will not be invited to next year’s G20 summit in the US, claiming the nation is not “worthy of membership” amid “horrific human right abuses”.
The President said the US did not attend the G20 in South Africa – which the US was the only G20 member to boycott this month – because the government “refuses to acknowledge or address the horrific Human Right Abuses endured by Afrikaners, and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers”.
“To put it more bluntly, they are killing white people, and randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them,” he added.
“At the conclusion of the G20, South Africa refused to hand off the G20 Presidency to a Senior Representative from our U.S. Embassy, who attended the Closing Ceremony. Therefore, at my direction, South Africa will NOT be receiving an invitation to the 2026 G20, which will be hosted in the Great City of Miami, Florida next year.”

“South Africa has demonstrated to the World they are not a country worthy of Membership anywhere, and we are going to stop all payments and subsidies to them, effective immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Following the post, South Africa’s presidential spokesman, Vincent Magwenya, told the BBCit should be accepted that “there won’t be a reset of the relationship” between South Africa and the US moving forward.
“If visas are denied, well, then we will have to move on and look beyond the G20 in the US,” he said.
Trump vows to ban ‘third world’ migrants
Mr Trump on Thursday vowed to “permanently pause migration from all third world countries” and remove “millions” of people, as he continues to rage over the shooting of two National Guard troops by an Afghan migrant.
“Even as we have progressed technologically, Immigration Policy has eroded those gains and living conditions for many,” the President wrote in a Truth Social post.
“I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country, end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens of our Country, denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.”
“These goals will be pursued with the aim of achieving a major reduction in illegal and disruptive populations, including those admitted through an unauthorized and illegal Autopen approval process.”
“Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation. Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!”
It comes after suspected gunman and Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal allegedly opened fire at two National Guard members, Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Andrew Wolfe, 24, in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday afternoon.

US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced on Friday charged against the suspect have been upgraded to first-degree murder following the death of Ms Beckstrom on Thursday.
Lakanwal, 29 was previously charged with three counts of assault with the intent to kill while armed and criminal possession of a weapon, over the “targeted” shooting.
“There are certainly many more charges to come, but we are upgrading the initial charges of assault to murder in the first degree,” Mr Pirro said in an update on Fox News’ Fox & Friends.
Mr Wolfe remains in “very critical condition,” West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey said on Friday.
